Promoting recruitment within Staffordshire County Council

Staffordshire County Council’s Resourcing Team came to us with a clear challenge: how to showcase the breadth of careers within the Council in a way that would resonate equally with carers, social workers, finance specialists and those considering infrastructure roles.

We began with a series of planning sessions, working with colleagues across Children and Families, Health and Care, Economy, Infrastructure & Skills, and Corporate Services. Accessibility and inclusion were central to every decision. The Resourcing Team were clear that the campaign needed to inspire future candidates while also supporting neurodivergent applicants and those with disabilities.

“The films really bring to life what it’s like to work here at Staffordshire County Council, they bring together our colleagues and how passionate they were about the role that they were in.”

-Laure Chetta, Resourcing advisor, Staffordshire County Council

The creative solution centred on ambassadors. We invited staff to put themselves forward, producing a simple guide to ease concerns about filming. The response was overwhelming: 65 applications for just 20 places.

“We’ve already seen an increase in website visitors, high engagement across LinkedIn and Facebook, and a stronger pipeline of talent across all job families. The campaign is fantastic. The video footage is really well edited to get the message across.”

Working with People Services, we met every applicant before selecting a final group of ambassadors whose stories reflected not only the diversity of roles, but also the diversity of people within the organisation.

Filming was carefully scheduled to minimise disruption, with contingency built in for inevitable changes. Alongside the case study films, we produced a values-driven culture film, a virtual office tour for candidates anxious about environment and access, a film explaining the benefits of working for the Council, and a suite of exhibition materials.

"The project’s success was also recognised nationally, with the Resourcing Team reaching the finals of the In-House Recruitment Awards in London."

- Jason Gracey, Resourcing manager, Staffordshire County Council
